  • Samantha Communications Protocol

Does anyone know what kind of communications protocol the FCS uses to communicate with the NXT? Is it something as simple as a socket, or is it more custom. I know it's wifi, I'm just wondering if it's maybe ssh, socket, http, or whatever actual data protocol it uses to tell the NXT the state of the controllers. I'm hoping to make a more portable, possibly raspberry pi-based, control system that doesn't rely on lugging a Windows laptop around. Any help finding a tutorial or datasheet would be much appreciated.

The Samantha protocol is a thin wrapper around LEGO protocol - the same protocol used over USB. I've been reverse-engineering the Samantha/FCS communications protocol, I'll publish a good explanation of it once I'm done.

Well, I guess what I meant was, since this guy works for FIRST (or is he a mentor?) is there a way to get in touch with him and ask him questions?
