  • Moto X 1st Generation Phone's Unable to See all Modules

    Hi,

This year we purchased the Moto X 1st generation phones to use for our team, but we've run into an error. The robot controller phone when you run a scan to configure the robot cannot detect any modules besides the last module that was plugged (max 1 at a time). This seems to be an error for Lollipop OS (which our phones run) and well documented online. The real problem is that there seems to be no fix besides updating to Marshmellow and our phones aren't compatible with it.

Any advice or ideas are welcome. If we have to buy new phones, we do, but if we could fix it that would be fantastic.

    Thank you,
    -Sam Orta

To give some backstory and context on our setup. We use the old power distribution module, which then connects by USB to the motor controllers, servo controllers, and core interface module. We upload code using the android studio and so far we can do that without much error, the issue is with the robot configuration.

The changes we made this year are switching from the old ZTE Phones to Moto X 1st gen, which might not even be a legal phone.

Our robot controller and driver controller apps are both 3.4 revision and version 112

I wouldn't bother fighting with it.

          Hi Sam,

Unfortunately, there is the Lollipop bug that prevents the phone from see more than one USB device connected to it. Have you tried to update the phone to its latest Motorola factory upgrades?
for some phones (the Moto G 2nd gen phone) Motorola provided a lollipop update that fixed that bug.

Unfortunately, if there is no factory update for the phone to either fix the problem or update it to Marshmallow (and fix the problem), you probably cannot use the phone. Also, the Moto X is not an approved phone, so technically it is not permitted during competition use.

One of the reasons why we currently have a list of approved devices for competition use is because FIRST has been able to test the devices and verify that they work for our competition requirements.
