  • Legal phones, parts

An update apparently went out today to the PDF enumerating legal and illegal parts:

FIRST is a global robotics community preparing young people for the future and the world’s leading youth-serving nonprofit advancing STEM education.

Of particular interest to many will be the list (p2) of sanctioned phones, which includes:
    • ZTE Speed
    • Moto G 2nd gen
    • Moto G 3rd gen
    • Google Nexus 5
    • Samsung Galaxy S5

Having issues with the ZTE Speed phones we are using with the latest operating systems. Our phones won't take the very last update, I believe ours have the Jellybean operating system and they will not connect with android studio or app inventer. Also have issues with the micro usb port on one phone being broken (cheap). Need to upgrade to a better phone but spending the $200- 400 per phone is ridiculous and for a small school cost prohibitive. I have checked with Best Buy on the Moto G3 which is now on clearance at $126.99, but few are available anywhere. The Moto G4 Play is up to date with Marshmallow op system but it's not legal is that correct?
Tell me what the best options are people....it's getting frustrating....especially after spending money to upgrade the Modern Robotics modules.
        Help!!!!!!!!

You should have a 4.4 version of Android (which is KitKat) on the ZTE Speed. There is no need to have a newer version of Android on an otherwise properly functional ZTE Speed for the phone to operate correctly with the most current version of Android Studio. I have no experience with App Inventor. Unless there is a change to the officially supported list of phones, what you seen previously in Game Manual 1 is the list of approved phones.

That having been said, agree that I would like to see a few more options including phones that are not discontinued.

If you would like an official response, you should post in the official Q&A forum...

I have 2 Moto G 3rd gen updated to marshmallow (android 6) I'm trying to sell. They have been used for probably less than an hour - pretty much brand new. $175 for the pair or make an offer. I'm a mentor and I bought these thinking I would test stuff at home but have only used them once.
