  • Defense-pushing a bot-ever permissible?

1-Is it permissible to push a robot that is between the crater and the Lander. This is a slow and consistent push by the blue robot and not a slam or an effort to damage/tip the red robot.

2-If the red robot is maneuvering balls between the crater and their arm device-can a blue robot push the red robot, so that it does not have an easy opportunity to extend its arm to the Lander. The team would be careful to coordinate the pushing of the red robot when the arm has not broken the plane of the tape that defines the area inside the lander's "safe" zone. Is this a legal/permissible defense? The red robot would not be not trapped or pinned- as it is free to push back or flee-circle around the lander.

3-can a blue robot push the red robot while red robot is digging minerals out of the crater? The red robot is not trapped or pinned-it is free to push back or flee Is this a legal/permissible defense?

GDC: The answers to these scenarios are found by applying rules <GS5>, <GS6>, <GS11>, <G17>, and <G18> in the Game Manual Part 2.

Answer 1: Yes, provided that the defensive Robot does not violate rules <GS5>, <GS6>, <GS11>, <G17>, and <G18> in the Game Manual Part 2.

Answer 2: It depends on the position of the two Robots relative to each other and to the Lander. For example, if the defending Robot is between the Scoring Robot and the Lander, it is likely a violation of rule <GS5>. If the defending Robot is not between the Scoring Robot and the Lander (for example, the defending Robot is pushing the Scoring Robot from the side) the action probably does not violate any rules. This is a dynamic situation that the Referee crew will observe and apply warnings and Penalties as appropriate.

Answer 3: In general yes. Once again, this is potentially a dynamic situation that the Referee crew will observe and apply warnings and Penalties as appropriate.
